Anne Hathaway is getting candid about finding peace in her life, and that doesn’t come without admitted fault.
“I have a history with rage,” she admitted in her cover interview for Glamour‘s June/July issue. “I used to do this thing where I was like, ‘I’m nice 29 days out of 30, and then I give myself complete permission to be a b**ch to anyone, about anything.’”
She continued, “I realized that if I could actually move away from the judgment and deal with my emotions in the moment, I didn’t actually need the extra day. Rage doesn’t lead you to a place of peace. And for me the goal is not happiness. The goal is peace.”

Finding peace of mind is a commendable goal, though it’s sometimes easier said than done, especially if you have coordinated hate directed your way like Hathaway did in 2013. The actress unintentionally sparked legions of anti-fans after her 2013 Oscars acceptance speech for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables was read as insincere and artificial, but thankfully, the backlash doesn’t bother her anymore.

“How the world feels about me has nothing to do with me. How other people treat me has nothing to do with me,” she said to Jezebel last year. “But if anything that anybody said resonated with me as something I’d like to work on for myself, I took it in like that.”
She continued, “And to that extent, I feel like I got to shortcut a lot of my growth. To that extent, even though I wouldn’t have chosen to go through it, I still found a way to be grateful to it.”
Haters, take note.
