2019 New Japan Cup Down To 8 Quarterfinalists; Okada vs Ospreay Dream Match To Headline The Next Round

The 2019 New Japan Cup is down to eight.

After a grueling first two rounds, the single-elimination tournament has been widdled down from 32 (the most in company history) to just 8 men heading into the quarterfinal round. As noted, the winner of this year’s Cup will get the opportunity to face “Switchblade” Jay White for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden.

On the left hand side of the bracket is an all-CHAOS field, lending itself to some incredibly interesting matches. The “Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii will square off against Yoshi-Hashi for a spot in the semifinals, while Kazuchika Okada and NEVER Openweight Champion Will Ospreay battle it out in what could easily be the best match of the entire tournament.

On the right side of the field we have Hiroshi Tanahashi taking on 2018 New Japan Cup winner Zack Sabre Jr., who just picked up a major upset over Kota Ibushi in the Round of 16. Finally, SANADA will take on Ring of Honor’s Colt Cabana in the last quarterfinal match.
