NEW YORK — A shadowy online message board knew about Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide before anyone else, according to a new report. An anonymous 4Chan user announced the pedophile financier’s death by hanging about half an hour before news outlets got wind of it early Satuday morning, BuzzFeed News reported Tuesday.

“dont ask me how I know, but Epstein died an hour ago from hanging, cardiac arrest,” the poster wrote at 8:16 a.m. Saturday, according to a copy of the post published by BuzzFeed.

The post appeared about 38 minutes before ABC News reporter published the first tweet about Epstein’s suicide at the Manhattan Correctional Center, a federal jail in Lower Manhattan where he was awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.

The tipster offered more details when prompted by other 4Chan users, according to BuzzFeed. Another post made about half an hour later appears to lay out the procedures medics used in a failed attempt to revive Epstein, suggesting it was published by a first-responder or someone else familiar with the efforts, the report says.

The 4Chan post prompted the FDNY to review whether one of its members divulged the information. But the Fire Department found late Monday that it was not responsible for the leak, department spokesperson Frank Dwyer said.

“FDNY reviewed the incident and determined the alleged information did not come from the Fire Department,” Dwyer told Patch. He would not elaborate on how the department reached that conclusion, citing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, a federal law barring the disclosure of medical information.
