Lille faced a narrow 1-0 humbling at the hands of Lyon on Sunday evening, courtesy of a goal scored by former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Following the match, Lille manager Paulo Fonseca rued the missed chances, with the ex-Roma gaffer admitting that his team could not convert their chances in the first half. As quoted by L’Équipe, Fonseca said:

“It causes great frustration. We had five or six clear chances to score in the first half, and we didn’t do it. We suffered on the ball, the Lyon move was their only chance to score.”

He added:

“That’s the result of the game at the end. But the most important thing is that the team remains ambitious. Believe me, it’s not easy to play like that when you come to Lyon. We get more chances than the opponent. We have to keep this ambition. If we continue to play like that, we will win more games.”

Despite losing the game, Lille find themselves one position above 8th-placed Lyon with a two-point lead. Fonseca’s men host Rennes in their next Ligue 1 fixture on November 6.
