Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe, Portuguese international central defender José Fonte indicated that he believes that his Lille side can contest PSG for the Ligue 1 title.

“Everyone knows that PSG are the champions. They have world class players. But Lille are capable of beating them. Aside from that, over 38 matches, you have to be consistent. So I want to motivate my teammates to become consistent. We will see what they are capable of. I want to disassociate each match with each other. This is the strongest team I have played in at Lille, position by position. But we have to demonstrate it. So do better than my first year (they finished 2nd then). I am confident. We have experience, youth. A good mixture. In all positions, there is quality. Mr Galtier is happy with the quantity and quality of the squad.”
