Toulouse midfielder Ola Toivonen has completed his move to A-League side Melbourne Victory today.
The Swedish attacking midfielder had been expected to confirm his departure from Les Violets before the end of the transfer window, particularly after the 32-year-old did not turn up for training at Toulouse earlier this week.
Toivonen’s period at Toulouse has not been a success, with a return of 9 goals from the past two seasons that saw him surplus to requirements under Alain Casanova.
The 6 ft 4 in midfielder had been linked with Swansea and PSV Eindhoven earlier in the window, but it was the A-League champions who have acted quickest to secure Toivonen’s signature.
Toivonen has mustered 14 goals in 64 international appearances for Sweden – although he officially retired from the national team earlier this week – and played a major part in their World Cup campaign in Russia, memorably lobbing Manuel Neuer to score the opening goal in Sweden’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in the Group stages.
