Argentina head coach Michael Cheika has made three changes to his starting XV to face the Springboks in Buenos Aires on Saturday.
Props Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro and Eduardo Bello come into the side for Thomas Gallo and Joel Sclavi, who drop to the bench, while captain Julian Montoya completes the starting front-row.
Powerful back-row
The experienced duo of Tomas Lavanini and Matias Alemanno resume their partnership in the second-row while Marcos Kremer and Juan Martin Gonzalez join the tireless Pablo Matera in the continuously developing back-row.
Gonzalo Bertranou comes in at scrum-half alongside playmaker Santiago Carreras in an exciting half-back pairing. Jeronimo de la Fuente starts at outside centre alongside Matias Orlando in a switch that sees Matias Moroni drop to the bench.
Superstar Emiliano Boffelli starts on the wing with Lucio Cinti, while Juan Cruz Mallia completes the back three for Los Pumas.
Veteran and former captain Agustin Creevy returns to the bench alongside Gallo and Sclavi as the front-row replacements. Guido Petti and Rodrigo Bruni are the other forward options for Cheika to call on.
Livewire scrum-half Tomas Cubelli takes his spot on the bench with Benjamin Urdapilleta and Moroni as the backline cover.
Cheika says his squad have been focused since returning to the country and are gearing up to face the different challenge offered by the Springboks compared to the Wallabies and All Blacks.
“When we got back to work at the start of the week, everyone had a good attitude, very positive and have concentrated on the strategy for the game,” Cheika said. “It will be important to impose our way of playing. South Africa are a lot different to play against than Australia and New Zealand. It will be a different dynamic.”
The competition is wide open with any team any able to claim the title and Cheika knows it is up to his side to stay in the race for glory.
“It is up to us to keep the Rugby Championship open and alive,” the Los Pumas coach added.
