Sunday: Marseille vs Lorient (13:00 GMT)
Marseille will be looking to recover from two successive league defeats as they host Lorient at the Stade Velodrome on Sunday afternoon. The hosts suffered 2-1 losses to both Angers and PSG before the international break; results which see them head into this match 16th in the table and winless in their last four.
Lorient, meanwhile, are certainly not the ideal opponents for Michel’s men, as the visitors are currently in great form. Sylvain Ripoll’s side have won four of their last five league outings, overcoming Angers, Monaco, Caen and Bordeaux, and have responded in the best possible way to their poor August results.
Sunday: Bordeaux vs Montpellier (16:00 GMT)
Bordeaux and Montpellier meet at the Matmut Atlantique on Sunday in a clash between two sides who have struggled to get going this season. The usually consistent hosts have been anything but so far this campaign, winning just two of their opening nine fixtures. A surprise 3-1 victory over Lyon in Week 8 looked like a possible change of fortunes for Willy Sagnol’s men, but they lost 3-2 to Lorient in their last outing before the international break.
Montpellier, likewise, won their match in Week 8, their first of the season in fact, only to go on to lose to Lille the week after. The visitors head into this match 18th in the standings, six points behind Bordeaux.
Sunday: Rennes vs Nice (20:00 GMT)
Rennes will be aiming to extend their eight game unbeaten run against in-form Nice at Roazhon Park on Sunday evening. Since losing their opening weekend fixture away at Bastia, Rennes have been literally unbeatable, winning four and drawing four to move up to fifth in the standings. However, Philippe Montanier will be concerned that the four draws have come in their last four outings and, whilst it’s not the worst problem to have, he will want to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
Nice, meanwhile, have also been in good form, winning each of their last three league fixtures. The visitors have beaten Bastia, Bordeaux and St Etienne over the last month, scoring 13 times in the process and manager Claude Puel will be hoping their momentum has carried over from the international break.
