One was given by a man who has helped drive a wedge between the U.K. and the Continent — Boris Johnson, British foreign secretary and former journalistic peddler of exaggerations and myths. The other was delivered by a man whose job it is to promote European unity — Jean-Claude Juncker, European Commission president and former peddler of sweetheart tax deals.
