News regarding some of the choices in the Extreme Rules pay-per-view has come out now courtesy of Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer. Many fans were surprised to see the Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss match go so quickly. Lasting just slightly over five minutes, Bliss viciously beat down Bayley with a kendo stick before just simply pinning her to retain the Raw Women’s Championship. Apparently the negative response to the “This is Your Life” segment from last week managed to sour WWE on the entire rivalry. The company decided to cut the match short, end the feud, and just have both women move on. No word on what’s next for Bayley, but Alexa Bliss’ next challenger is expected to be Nia Jax.
The show also had a lengthy segment that featured “The Drifter” Elias Samson come out and sing one of his songs. He did not wrestle in a match afterwards, nor did anybody come out to interrupt to setup some sort of angle. This was apparently only done by WWE at the last minute to fill time. The pay-per-view only had six matches, and it ended about fifteen minutes before the usual 11PM EST spot. He had been expected to interfere in the Dean Ambrose vs. The Miz match, but they decided to dedicate some time to him later on in the show. “The Drifter” has begun wrestling and singing songs every single week on Raw, but has yet to be placed in an official feud with somebody.
Tonight’s edition of Raw will feature a ton of fallout from the Extreme Rules show. The Miz will be throwing a celebration for himself after regaining the Intercontinental Championship for a seventh time. Also, we’ll find out what’s next for Alexa Bliss, The Hardys, Cesaro and Sheamus, and the other members of the Fatal 5-Way main event from last night. The build for Samoa Joe’s championship match against Brock Lesnar is also expected to take shape tonight before they face off at Great Balls of Fire. After losing to Neville last night again, Austin Aries tweeted that he may need to reevaluate his career, perhaps suggesting that he may be moved out of the cruiserweight division, but that is just speculation at this point.
