Ashton appoints EU envoys to Libya, Haiti
Slovak, Spaniard given ambassadorial posts.
Catherine Ashton, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, has appointed Peter Zsoldos as the EU’s ambassador to Libya and Javier Niño Pérez as the ambassador to Haiti.
Zsoldos, a Slovak career diplomat, was until recently his country’s ambassador to Egypt. He previously held a senior position in Slovakia’s foreign ministry in Bratislava. He replaces James Moran, who was in the post on a temporary basis and has now taken over as the EU’s ambassador to Egypt.

The EU’s delegation in Tripoli was opened after last year’s civil war.
Javier Niño Pérez is a former European Commission official and has been chargé d’affaires of the EU’s delegation to Cuba.
The appointments, announced today (6 February), will take effect once administrative and accreditation procedures have been completed.
Ashton said: “Their experience and expertise will be a huge asset to our work in two countries which face many challenges over the coming years.”
