Dragons Head West for NSIC Duals at Mary and Minot State

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team heads west for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference duals this week. The Dragons will face Mary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Bismarck, N.D., and conclude the week with a dual at Minot State on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Dragons (6-3, 1-1 NSIC) split a pair of NSIC matches last week, beating Northern State, 30-16 on Jan. 15 before falling at No. 1 St. Cloud State, 34-3 on Jan. 16. Mary is 1-4 in duals while Minot State is 1-11.

About MSUM
The Dragons split a pair of matches last week to move to 6-3 on the season. Philippe Walker led the Dragons with a 2-0 mark on the week.

For the season, junior Angel Vega leads MSUM with an 18-8 record at 141 pounds. Walker is second at 14-7 at 133 pounds, while junior Casey Williams is 12-4 at 149 pounds. Redshirt freshman Jesse Puncochar is 11-4 at 174 pounds for MSUM.

Kris Nelson is in his fourth season as MSUM’s head coach with a record of 21-31 at the school.

About Mary
Mary is 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC on the season. The Marauders lost to Minnesota State, Mankato, 26-13 in their last dual on Jan. 18 in Mankato, Minn.

Sophomore Trevor Johnson leads Mary with a 24-4 record. He is ranked No. 2 in the nation at 141 pounds. Freshman Brock Krumm is 12-8 at 165 pounds for the Marauders, while junior Brady Anderson is 10-3 at 184 pounds.

Ben Berogan is in his fourth year as Mary’s head coach with a record of 14-30 at the school.

About Minot State
NSIC newcomer Minot State is 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC. The Beavers lost at No. 6-ranked Upper Iowa, 40-11 in their last dual on Jan. 20 in Fayette, Iowa.

Junior Matt Fetterley leads Minot with a 13-8 record at 174 pounds, while junior Bob Bartz is 6-8 at 285 pounds.

Robin Ersland is in his third season as Minot’s head coach with a record of 10-19 at the school.
