The 6th
annual Marathon Sports End
of Summer Classic 5 mile road
race will be held on Friday evening, August 23rd at Bare Cove Park
in Hingham, MA. Well known as the most fun race on the South Shore, this year
will be no different with the addition of several new and exciting components,
including a 3 mile run/walk and the first ever ElliptiGO event on the East
Coast.
The
ElliptiGO event is being called the New England ElliptiGO Summer Classic
and is also a 5 miler. Participants are converging from across the US to
compete in this exciting new sport. ElliptiGO is similar to an elliptical
machine on wheels. The motion simulates running without the damaging impact on
legs and joints. It’s is being used by many of the nation’s elite runners to
reduce injuries during training. Local resident/celebrity Steve Carrell has
been seen riding an ElliptiGO on the South Shore.
The event
will also employ some new technology. An unmanned aerial film platform operated
by a pilot on the ground will film the event from the air. The resulting film,
professionally produced by DragonFly Aerials will be used to promote the event
and Bare Cove Park in the future and will be shared with sponsors for their
use.
award ceremony/celebration will be held in the pavilion tent at nearby South
Shore Country Club. For information about the event go to: www.endofsummerclassic.com or contact John Childs at
