The weekend of 23/24th September saw the 5th anniversary of the popular Equinox24 event with record numbers attending.

The race with its unique 12 hours day/12 hours night running, is based within the grounds of the stunning Belvoir Castle estate in Leicestershire and with the lit castle sitting high above the course, is truly one of the most stunning run venues out there.

With numbers growing to over 2100 this year the atmosphere was electric from start to finish. The weekend started with the Friday night beer run and socialising at event HQ. On Saturday, families took part in the Virtual Runner sponsored fun run with around 300 kids participating, then it was onto the main event.

The format is simple; race as a solo, or in a team of up to 8 people as a relay and complete as many 10km laps as you can in 24hrs (or just over if you cross the finish line before midday on Sunday and take on the event challenge of #onemorelap). Equinox24 has built a reputation as one of the most supportive events in the UK and is one of the reasons it has the largest solo field of any 24hr event with over 425 solo runners entering this year to see what they could achieve.

Racing was fast and furious from the off, with a prize from Polar of the brand new M430 GPS watch up for grabs for the quickest male and female lap we saw the quickest start to our race for years with Alex Heron and Emily Foran taking home the goodies.

The solo race was won with a new course record of 21 laps – yes that’s right 210km! by Brian Clary with the female winner Emma Marshall-Telfer not far behind with 18 laps showing that “this girl can”. The Pairs category was won by ‘The Brothers’ with 28 laps, Small Team category winners were Return of the Unicorns with 34 laps and Large Team category winners were Sleaford Speedsters who ran 35 laps.

Every race has its speedy runners but what makes this event truly memorable though is the individuals who may never win a race, those that just want to challenge themselves, to raise money for great causes, run in fancy dress and to take part with like-minded people in this test of endurance.

A huge amount of money was raised during the event by individuals for lots of worthy causes. Money was also raised for our Charity partner Wings For Life in the spring virtual race, donations from massage and from the junior fun run. We are waiting on a final amount but are really happy to donate to such a great cause.

The 2018 event will open for entries in November and is likely to be a sell out so please follow the Facebook page for details of how you can pre-register and make sure you don’t miss out.
