Summer’s hottest trend is: Face tattoos? 

Your conservative grandma may faint at the sight, but who knows, could face tattoos eventually lose their stigma, like nose rings or cartilage piercings before them?

One singer working to make the case for Team Face Tat is Halsey. The 23-year-old singer, who has plenty of other pieces across her body—including on her neck—posted an image to Instagram on Friday showing off new tattoo on her left cheek, right next to her ear. 

Done in red ink, the piece is an homage to the Queen of diamonds from a standard deck of playing cards, giving us fodder for “Poker Face” puns for days. (Halsey is an admittedly huge fan of Lady Gaga—we wonder if there’s a connection?)

“Headed straight for the castle,” she wrote in the caption, which we imagine is a reference to her 2017 album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. “Thanks for my first (and only hopefully lol) face tattoo.” She tagged Los Angeles studio NAL Tattoo.

The simple red “Q” and diamond shape are not quite as striking as say, rapper Post Malone’s “Always Tired” face tattoo, or even Kat Von D’s small constellation of stars, but it’s quite a statement nonetheless. 

Love it or hate it, we have one thing to say to Halsey: “Yass, queen.”
