Injury worry for Manu Tuilagi as Saracens see off Leicester

MANU TUILAGI IS an injury concern for Leicester Tigers and England as he limped out of a Premiership fixture this afternoon, though his coach Richard Cockerill hopes it’s little more than a ‘sore knee’.

The 25-year-old has been severely hampered by injuries in recent years, a long-standing groin problem the primary reason for being limited to just one international appearance since June 2014.

There was a boost for the Samoa-born back yesterday when he was named in a 33-man England training squad ahead of the Six Nations, which begins next month.

However, Tuilagi then limped off inside the first 10 minutes of Leicester’s 16-12 loss to Saracens, having seemingly hurt his right knee as he was tackled.

Tuilagi was clearly distressed as he left the field following treatment, although Tigers coach Richard Cockerill did not appear too concerned over the severity of the issue.

Cockerill told BT Sport: ”He got a whack on the outside of the knee. One good thing is his groin is feeling great, but he’s just got a sore knee.”

Owen Farrell scored all Saracens points in the 16 – 12 win, including the game’s only try in the 55th minute after Owen Williams’ long-range penalty had given Tigers the lead.
