Led by manager Marcelo Bielsa’s desire, Ligue 1 side Lille have in recent hours taken the lead in the race for Le Havre left-back Ferland Mendy, according to L’Équipe.

Lyon and Bordeaux had previously both made steps to sign Mendy, but it is Les Dogues who lead the race to sign 21-year-old full-back.

Watford, who are also interested in the player, have not made a move and are still considering Mendy before making direct contact.
