A cyclist who ignored warnings on a moving bridge narrowly escaped serious injury as onlookers came to her rescue.

The incident can be seen in dramatic footage released by the Wisconsin Transport Department. It shows a 37-year-old woman ignoring warnings as she rides through the lowered barriers while the bridge is being pulled up.

The bridge operator was aware of the cyclist’s fall and was able to stop the bridge being pulled up any further.

Onlookers rushed to free the cyclist who was taken to Theda Clark Medical Center and treated for facial injuries. 

Menasha Police said the woman has been issued with a citation for failing to obey the stop signal.
