Patrick Corbin To Washington Nationals: Buy Tickets Here

WASHINGTON, DC — The Washington Nationals have reportedly agreed to terms on a six-year deal with veteran lefty Patrick Corbin, bolstering a rotation that already features stars Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the deal is about on par with the $126 million guarantee that Yu Darvish received from the Chicago Cubs.

Corbin is a two-time All-Star, once in 2013 and again during the 2018 season. He had a 3.15 ERA and an 11-7 record with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season.

Corbin will be 29 years old at the start of the season. The team beat out the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies in pursuit of Corbin’s arm, according to The Washington Post, which first reported the deal.

Corbin is known for his nasty slider that leaves left-handed hitters in knots. He’s coming off what’s likely his best season in which he struck out a career high 246 batters. Corbin was worth about six wins above a league average replacement last year, fourth best in the league, according to the stats site Fangraphs. His strikeout rate of 11.07 per game ranked sixth best in the league, and his 2.16 walks per game ranked 13th best.
