It’s no secret that Sia and Maddie Ziegler have collaborated for years. The pop star and Dance Moms alum have worked on music videos like “Elastic Heart” and performed together at the 2015 Grammys.

Despite her longtime work with Ziegler on such public platforms, Sia has previously stated how she has suffered deeply from fame. And in an article published Tuesday, The Guardian pointed out how 41-year-old Sia has shied away from the spotlight herself but has helped catapult now-15-year-old Ziegler to stardom. The “Chandelier” singer responded via social media to share her stance.

Sia posted a series of tweets, in which she wrote: “This article poses a question I have asked myself often. I do check in with Maddie weekly about whether she wants this, and assure her if she ever wants it to stop it stops. It’s a conversation we should all be having. Not just myself but all directors, stage parents, and agents.”

She continued to explain their relationship. “Maddie was already famous when I discovered her, but I have certainly expanded her exposure and feel responsible for that. I feel protective of her and my goal is to empower her in whatever choices she makes,” she wrote. “I do try to choose the best for her always.”

“What I learned from Maddie is that fame affects her differently than how it affected me. I can only trust that she is telling me the truth. If that changes, we stop,” she concluded.
