WWE Smackville Results (7/27): Nashville, TN

WWE is about to go live on the WWE Network with their WWE Smackville special event from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

As WWE announced just prior to the start of the live broadcast of the WWE Smackville special on the WWE Network, Finn Balor suffered an injury and had to be pulled at the last minute from his match against Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

WWE Intercontinental Championship
* Shinsuke Nakamura (C) vs. Ali

The show opens with the commentators, David Otunga and Tom Philips, informing us about the Balor situation. As they continue to talk, Shinsuke Nakamura’s music hits and out comes the WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Nakamura gets on the mic and says, “No Finn, no match! I win by forfeit! Ring the bell!”

The bell rang to start the match and the referee began making his ten count. Before he could reach the count of ten, Ali’s music hits and out he comes. It appears that he will be stepping in for Balor on short-notice as the replacement opponent for Nakamura in this WWE Intercontinental Championship match-up.

With that said, we are informed that Ali will be stepping in as a short-notice replacement opponent for the reigning I-C champion. Ali vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Intercontinental Championship is now underway here as our first match inside the ring at the WWE Smackville live portion of the WWE Nashville event streaming on the WWE Network from Bridgestone Arena.

This one was given a few minutes to develop, and featured some quality high-flying action and a couple of cool spots that got the fans standing on their feet at various points during the action.

When all was said and done, however, it was Nakamura that managed to score the victory and get his hand raised, retaining his WWE Intercontinental Championship in the process.

Winner and STILL WWE Intercontinental Champion: Shinsuke Nakamura

Backstage Promo: Samoa Joe

After our first contest of the evening inside the ring on the WWE Network broadcast portion of the WWE live event in Nashville this evening, we head backstage for a promo segment.

We see “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe talking about his Triple-Threat Match along with Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston with Kingston’s WWE Championship on-the-line.

Joe promises that he will leave Bridgestone Arena this evening as the winner and will head into his advertised “Samoan Summit” with Roman Reigns on Monday’s episode of WWE RAW as the brand new WWE Champion.

An Exclusive Musical Performance By Elias

We shoot back live inside the Bridgestone Arena where it’s time for our promised musical performance by Elias.

Elias is in the ring with his trademark, dimly lit setup, bar stool and acustic guitar. He strums away and begins playing. After he finishes up his first riff, he criticizes the fans in Nashville for not giving a star like Elias the appropriate respect and admiration that he deserves.

He threatens to walk out and this leads to a back-and-forth moment between Elias and the fans inside Bridgestone Arena, as he prompts them to “Boo” and “Yay” cheer him over and over again.

Elias goes back into his musical performance, where this time, his lyrical content is purely based around the ass-smooching of “The Best in the World” himself, Mr. Shane McMahon.

Now he interrupts himself to inform us that he has a phone call coming in. He gets on the phone and it’s Mr. McMahon. He tells us after hanging up the phone that it was Vince McMahon and he’s got some good news — Vince said Elias can have as much time for his performance this evening as he wishes.

With that said, he starts strumming away at the ole’ guitar again, trashing Kevin Owens and kissing the ass of Shane McMahon some more.

Kevin Owens vs. Elias

This continues until Kevin Owens hits the ring from behind Elias. The lights come back on and get brighter. Elias is pissed that the lights are being messed with, as he is unaware that Owens is waiting behind him. Owens chases Elias out of the ring and then asks him to do us all a favor and “shut his stupid face.” He then brings up that Elias made a big mistake by mentioning his name.

Owens now tells us that he is going to give everyone a preview of what he is going to do to Shane McMahon at SummerSlam by doing it to Elias right here tonight. He says all that is missing is a referee.

A referee sprints to the ring and talks to the ring announcer. The ring announcer informs us and the rest of the viewing fans in attendance that the Owens-Elias match is now official. The bell sounds and it officially gets underway.

After giving this one a decent amount of time, the finish here saw Owens pick up the pin fall victory after blasting Elias with a Stunner for the 1-2-3. Owens wins and will go on to challenge Shane McMahon, with his own career on the line, at the WWE SummerSlam 2019 pay-per-view coming up in Toronto next month.

Winner: Kevin Owens

WWE Championship
* Kofi Kingston (C) vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Samoa Joe

And now it’s time for our main event of the evening — with the WWE Championship at stake.

The pre-match video package telling the story leading into tonight’s Triple-Threat Match for the WWE Championship between Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler and Samoa Joe is being shown now.

After the video package airs, we shoot backstage for a quick pre-match interview with the reigning WWE Champion. Kingston talks about having to beat both of his toughest challengers at “the same damn time” tonight, but he is more than ready to accomplish exactly that. He gramatically flubs his final line, not knowing how to properly reference the WWE Smackville name. Anyways, he leaves in good spirits as his Triple-Threat Match is up next.

From there, we hear Dolph Ziggler’s theme music playing and out he comes as the announcers tell some of the recent storylines involving “The Show Off.” This leads to video highlights of Shawn Michaels eating a super kick from Ziggler after calling him “a second rate Shawn Michaels wannabe” to his face on SmackDown LIVE earlier this week.

Now the theme music for Samoa Joe plays and out he comes down to the ring. The announcers do the same for him, catching potential new fans up on everything going on with “The Samoan Submission Specialist” as he heads to the squared circle visibly prepared to do battle.

Finally, the theme music for our WWE Champion, Kofi Kingston, hits, and out he comes. The New Day member and longtime WWE veteran comes out in a good mood, smiling ear-to-ear as he throws pancakes to random members of the WWE Universe in attendance inside the Bridgestone Arena as he nears the ring.

The match was given plenty of time and when all was said and done, it was Kingston who managed to get his hand raised and walk out of Bridgestone Arena in Nashville still as the reigning WWE Champion.

Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Kofi Kingston
