Vitinha undergoes Marseille medical as €30m move nears completion

According to Fabrizio Romano, Portuguese striker Vitinha (22) will shortly land in Marseille to complete medical tests in order to finalise a move to the Ligue 1 side. Romano reports that the deal has been agreed and signed, for a €26m fee plus add ons in an overall package worth €30m.

The Olympians struck a deal with Braga over the signing of the young promising Portuguese striker, which could mean that they break their record transfer with the signing of the U21 Portuguese international. OM purchased French West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet for a €29.5m fee in January 2017.

Vitinha was keen on a move to the Igor Tudor-led side and is expected to land at Marseille late this afternoon to sign his five-and-a-half year contract.

According to RMC Sport, OM were impressed by Vitinha’s resolve to join Les Phocéens and have greatly increased their initial offer to sign him. Marseille were in the market for a striker following the failure to sign Nigerian international striker Terem Moffi (23) from Lorient.

Marseille reportedly trumped competition from Premier League sides Aston Villa, Brighton and Southampton by offering Braga a bid higher than Vitinha’s €30m release clause. Brighton’s interest in the player wavered, following reports that an injury to striker Evan Ferguson (18) was less severe than expected, according to The Athletic.
