Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has revealed that the club is considering leaving the Parc des Princes in an interview with Bloomberg.

Al-Khelaïfi is currently in Qatar for the World Cup but has spoken about the future of PSG. He has recently evoked the idea of welcoming further investment at the club, although he said that QSI will remain the main shareholder at the Ligue 1 champions. 

He has now revealed that PSG could leave the Parc des Princes. “Paris deserves a better stadium,” he said to Bloomberg. PSG have played at the Parc des Princes since 1974 and the stadium has a capacity of just 48,000. It was announced earlier this year that PSG had sold out their last 100 home matches. Al-Khelaïfi revealed that the club had been in contact with the stadium’s owners, the City of Paris, about expansion and renovation for the past four to five years, but those discussions have been unsuccessful. Expansion is seen as a must for the management at the club. 

“My first opinion is that we don’t move, but the City of Paris is pushing for us to move,” said PSG’s president. The idea of buying the Stade de France, the national stadium with a capacity of 80,000, is an option. There are also two greenfield sites that could be developed. Al-Khelaïfi said the club wanted to buy the Parc des Princes, but the authorities are demanding too much money.
