Ferrari and Red Bull have gone for very different tyre choices for the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
The race at the Circuit of the Americas takes place from October 21-23, with the medium, soft and supersoft compound tyres nominated by Pirelli. The selections made ahead of the race in Austin have seen big differences between a number of teams.
While Mercedes has opted for three mediums, four softs and six supersofts on Lewis Hamilton’s car – and two mediums and five softs for Nico Rosberg – Ferrari has gone for just one set of medium tyres on each car, with five softs and seven supersofts.
Red Bull, by contrast, has selected four sets of mediums and three sets of softs for both of its cars, with Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo also receiving six sets of supersoft tyres. Only Renault – with four sets of mediums for Kevin Magnussen and five for Jolyon Palmer – match Red Bull’s preference for the hardest available compound.
