Peter Bosz on Lyon fans booing captain Léo Dubois: “He’s affected by it.”

Speaking ahead of Lyon’s trip to Lens this weekend, manager Peter Bosz notably spoke about the fans’ hostility towards captain Léo Dubois.

His words transcribed in L’Équipe, the Dutchman lamented the whistles aimed at the French international – although the hostility was attenuated by the win over Nice and the captain’s ensuiing discussion with the fans. Bosz also discussed the competition for the right-back spot with the young Malo Gusto.

“I don’t understand it at all. Not only is Léo our captain but he’s one of us. I don’t understand why before and after the game, because I heard it too, one of our players would be whistled at. I don’t understand it at all. He doesn’t deserve it. I’ve spoken with him, and believe me, he’s affected by it.”

“I was also whistled at when I was past 30 years of age, and you can say you don’t care, but that’s not how it is. If it’s the opponent who whistles at you it gives you energy, but not by your own fans, it’s not the same. This doesn’t help us.”

“Before the international break, Léo was like the rest of the team, sometimes good, sometimes not good, he wasn’t an exception. Since then, he’s been playing with more intensity, maybe also because there’s another very good player behind him, Malo. It might be that it’s helping him.”
